The AshantiFest was never going to be celebrated without the inclusion of the young ones, as it has become one of the objectives of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.

He simply loves to totally include students in his plans, and he duly did by opening the festival with a painting challenge among the High Schools across the Ashanti Region.

When the AshantiFest was officially launched on 18th March 2026 at the MTN Forecourt in Kaase, it promised to be scintillating.

The Street Art Festival was launched to give the young ones the chance to exhibit what they have been learning in the classroom outside the school premises.

Something that was meant to announce how Visual Arts students are doing in classrooms has now turned out to be a contest to see who is who. The young students have been blowing the minds of Ghanaians with their super talents.

The Asokwa Interchange is now glowing and glittering with different colours and styles applied to the walls. The gorgeous murals have stolen the attention of the populace, with many praising the minister for the wonderful initiative.

His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the president of Ghana and the Royal Majesty, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, have been nicely painted superbly that Leonardo da Vinci will be jealous wherever he is.

On TikTok and Facebook, there is a massive debate over which school nailed the painting of the Asokwa Interchange impeccably. It is so spontaneous to hail your school when you see them in the Street Art Festival.

Social Media users who attended senior high school in the Ashanti Region have been buzzing and enjoying themselves with the contribution of their alma mater.

Some of the Schools that have participated so far

Ejisu Senior High Technical School, Kumasi Girls Senior High School, Kumasi Anglican Senior High School, Kumasi High School, Prempeh College, Toase Senior High School, Kumasi Wesley Girls Senior High School, Serwaa Nyarko Girls, Adventis Senior High School, Simms, KSTS, Afia Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School, Yaa Asantewaa Girls, among many other schools, have shown what their teachers have been teaching them via the mural.

Ashanti Regional Minister’s thank you message to President Mahama

“All thanks to JM for believing in the youth and giving us the opportunity,” Dr Frank Amoakohene wrote on his Facebook wall and thanked His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for just giving the young ones enough opportunity to showcase their God-given talent.

Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council was super excited with the performances of the students and praised them

“ASHANTIFEST 2026 STREET ART FESTIVAL LIGHTS UP ASOKWA INTERCHANGE AS SHS STUDENTS SHOWCASE TALENT AND PRESERVE HERITAGE

“Dozens of talented Visual Arts students from senior high schools across the Ashanti Region have turned the concrete pillars and walls beneath the Asokwa Interchange into a vibrant open-air gallery.

“The colourful murals, created as a flagship activity of AshantiFest 2026, feature striking portraits of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the flags of the Ashanti Kingdom and Ghana, along with rich traditional symbols such as Adinkra motifs, kente patterns, and iconic elements of Ashanti cultural heritage.

“Spearheaded by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene and supported by MTN Ghana, the Street Art Festival is part of the 15-day celebration themed “Our Stories, Our History, Our Culture.”

People have been underrating the Visual Arts students for so many years, and this initiative will certainly change the perception of them.
