A resident of Sankore in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region, Emmanuel Asamoah, has reportedly died in prison less than a week after being sentenced to four years for causing harm.

He had gone into hiding after injuring a victim but was later arrested in a dramatic “Rambo-style” operation by the Goaso Police when he returned to Sankore.

Family sources say Emmanuel complained of ill health during his arrest but was ignored by police, who proceeded to arraign him before court.

Without legal representation, he was tried over two days and swiftly convicted, before being sent to the Sunyani Central Prison to begin his sentence.

His relatives, who had sought bail, were shocked when they visited the prison and were informed that he had died the following day.

A preliminary report is said to have revealed internal bleeding and trauma as possible causes of death. Emmanuel leaves behind two children, and his family is calling for thorough investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his sudden demise.
