Ghana High Commissioner meets homeless musician Barosky in Manchester

Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sabah Zita Benson, has visited Ghanaian musician Barosky in Manchester after reports that the performer had been living homeless in difficult conditions.

The visit followed the circulation of a video showing Barosky staying in a secluded location beside what appeared to be a highway. His slippers, mattress and other personal belongings were visible around the unkempt area where he had been living.

Barosky, once known for music that brought energy to dance floors and inspired music lovers, was recently reported to have become homeless in the UK. His situation was allegedly linked to drug abuse.

The video, which went viral, prompted the blogger who found Barosky to appeal for help from members of the public and other organisations. Help followed soon afterwards, with Mrs Benson travelling to meet the musician and taking him away from the squalid conditions shown in the footage.

A post published on the Ghana High Commission’s Facebook page on 29 August said the High Commissioner had gone to Manchester to understand Barosky’s circumstances and consider how he could be supported.

It said: “Her Excellency Mrs Sabah Zita Benson, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, visited Manchester to meet Barosky, a popular Ghanaian musician currently facing difficult circumstances.

“The visit was aimed at understanding his situation and exploring practical ways to support him as he works towards rebuilding his life and getting back on his feet.

The meeting represents an effort to respond to Barosky’s immediate circumstances while considering possible support for his recovery and return to a more stable life. The High Commission did not provide further details of the practical assistance being explored.

The images from the visit were shared on the High Commission’s Facebook page after the video had drawn attention to the musician’s condition. They showed the intervention following the appeal for support and highlighted the steps taken to make contact with Barosky in Manchester.

Barosky’s reported homelessness had raised concern among those familiar with his music and career. The musician had previously been associated with songs that animated audiences and filled dance floors, but the recent reports described a markedly different period in his life.

The appeal for assistance, the High Commissioner’s visit and the stated intention to explore ways of helping him rebuild his life have now brought renewed attention to his circumstances.
