Preview
Sweduru will host the first match of week 6 of the Ghana Premier League as All Blacks will face Asante Kotoko. The Porcupine Warriors’ interim head coach Hamza Obeng has a point to prove after winning his first game (1-0) in week 5 at Kumasi Sports Stadium against bogey side Karela. Fans are yet to know the new head coach for the club after South African tactician Eric Tinkler resigned after the 2-0 defeat at home against Aduana FC. A victory for Asante Kotoko will put Hamza Obeng in a good position for the vacant head coach role job even though it will be very difficult. All Blacks, on the other hand, are a tough side at home, having lost only two games since they returned to the Premier League 13 months ago. The Sweduru-based club has won four points from possible nine at home and will fancy their chances against the inconsistent Kotoko.
On Sunday, Berekum Chelsea will face Debibi United at the Golden City Park in Berekum. With three defeats thus far in five games for the newly promoted Debibi, the club can not afford afford a third consecutive defeat at Chelsea. Chelsea have also lost three games in the season and will fight to claim all three points against Debibi.
Young Apostles at Wenchi Town Park will welcome the in-form Aduana FC. Samuel Boadu’s charges have won three consecutive games after a disastrous start to the new campaign. With Amankona in the form of his life, Chelsea will need to defend strongly to avoid the hot-form striker putting them in danger.
FC AshantiGold will face a stern test in the unbeaten Samartex 1996 at the Obuasi len Clay Stadium. The visitors from Samraboi have won three and drawn two, making them a serious and tough side in the Ghana Premier League. Abdul Karim-Zito’s FC AshantiGold’s main target of the season is to avoid relegation, and a victory against a tougher opponent in Samartex will be sumptuous for the Obuasi community.
Hearst of Oak, after recording two victories on matchday one and two, is yet to score a single goal after recently facing Bechem United, Karela, and Dreams FC. Nebojsa Kapor’s Phobia have been firing blanks in attack, which is little by little becoming a bit concerning. The visit of Port City to the capital is expected to be a must-win match for Hearts of Oak because it will be disastrous for the club to go four games without a win. Port City, on the other hand, can never be underestimated after they recorded a superb 2-0 win at Bibiani Gold Stars at Duns Park – one of the difficult venues in the topflight. Port City have won 10 points from 15, having recorded three victories in the season and are only a point behind leaders Medeama and second-placed Samartex.
Gold Stars in Bibiani have been enduring a horrible season with only one victory recorded. It is very shocking to learn that Gold Stars have lost two consecutive games at home. Their only victory of the season was a 3-2 win at 10-men Dreams FC in Tema in week 3. Gold Stars will host bad travellers, Hoy Stars, who have lost both away games at Medeama and Young Apostles.
Table toppers Medeama SC will entertain Heart of Lions at TNA Park. Medeama, after two consecutive draws at the beginning of the season, have won their last three games, which has helped them move to the top of the table. Ibrahim Tanko’s side are on course to defend their title as they look like a side that can give any team trouble in the Premier League. Heart of Lions travel to Tarkwa in high spirits, having recorded back-to-back victories over Young Apostles and FC AshantiGold.
Karela United will look forward to returning to winning ways when they face the winless Dreams FC in Tamale. Karela lost 1-0 to Kotoko in their last fixture and are optimistic to add to Dreams’ pain. The Still Believe have become bad starters in the Ghana Premier League in recent seasons, and it is less surprising to see them sit first from the bottom in the league table.
Vision FC will make a trip to Bechem United having recorded three draws consecutively. Vision have scored three goals in five matches while Bechem United have scored four. With seven goals scored between the two sides in 10 combined games, the match looks like producing less goals.
