Ghana is lucky to start the new year with a home fixture against struggling Chad. Ranked 176 by FIFA, Chad is one of the poorest countries in terms of football on the continent.

Ghana will have no excuse to beat Chad on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana’s Head coach, Otto Addo, is not taking Chad for granted and will not be fooled by their rankings and pedigree.

At the pre-match conference, Otto Addo banished the belief that Chad is a poor team so Ghana will easily beat them.

“I know Chad is not a small team. It’s not going to be easy,” Otto Addo said.

Truthfully, Chad is a small team which could be ten steps below Ghana. Otto Addo’s comments ahead of the game mean that he doesn’t want his team to underestimate their opponents on Friday.

When Ghana faced Niger and Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, the Black Stars looked like favourites in those games but were shocked by them eventually. It looks like Otto Addo doesn’t want a repeat of that embarrassment.

“I am very happy that the [Accra Sports Stadium] pitch looks much better,” he added.

Pitch problems have been affecting the Black Stars in recent years,s and the head coach confirmed that the Accra Sports Stadium is ready for the game.

Ghana, on Friday evening, will face Chad. A win can send the Black Stars to the top of the table depending on what will transpire in the game between Comoros and Mali.
