Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has moved to allay concerns among technical university lecturers over the delayed payment of their 2025/2026 Book and Research Allowance.
The assurance comes after the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) threatened industrial action over the outstanding payments.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, September 16, Mr. Iddrisu said government was working to ensure that eligible members received the allowance before the end of September.
He disclosed that information on approximately 8,000 TUTAG members had already been entered into the government’s payment system by the Controller and Accountant-General.
“We directed GTEC to provide data to the Controller and Accountant-General and I am happy to note that some of you will receive your Book and Research Allowance in your September salary. Those of you who have had your data captured will receive it.”
The Minister said discussions with the Controller and Accountant-General on Tuesday, September 15, confirmed progress in processing the payments.
“We are committed to honouring all and as of the close of work yesterday [Tuesday, September 15], I spoke to the Controller and Accountant-General and he said he has entered data for up to 8,000 persons.”
The Book and Research Allowance forms part of the support provided to academic staff to facilitate scholarly work, including research and the acquisition of academic materials.
TUTAG’s threat of industrial action followed frustration over the failure to receive the allowance for the 2025/2026 academic year.
