A landlord has reportedly killed his tenant following a dispute over a GH¢30 electricity bill in Medie Ketewa, a community in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The deceased, 37‑year‑old Opoku Agyemang, a father of three, was stabbed to death during an argument with his landlord, 50‑year‑old Kofi Koranteng, on Tuesday, 19th May.

Residents say the two men were not only landlord and tenant but also close friends and long‑time work colleagues, making the incident particularly shocking.

Eyewitnesses say the exact trigger for the confrontation remains unclear. One witness, Enoch Idan Danquah, told reporters that Koranteng was unhappy with how Opoku handled payment of the electricity bills and invited him into his room to discuss the matter.

The discussion reportedly turned violent after the landlord allegedly produced a machete and stabbed Opoku multiple times.

Koranteng is reported to have fled the scene after the attack. The matter has been reported to the police, and officers from the Kotoku Police Command have conveyed the body to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Investigations are ongoing.
