Multiple Afrobeat award winner David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed his dream had he not ended up a musician. The 32-year-old singer, songwriter, and record producer has been actively in music since 2012 after releasing Dami Duro and has enjoyed hit after hit for more than a decade.

Davido in an interview with a Radio Station in Atlanta, The Beat 96.1, the Nigerian said, “I like promo, I like conversations. A lot of people don’t know that I studied marketing apart from business management. I like to market myself, I love to talk. If I had a podcast, I would talk for like three to four days [laughs]”.

“I just feel like it’s part of being an artist. A lot of big artists don’t do press, but I do because I can talk. But some people just don’t want to talk. When people meet me, I like to have conversations, I like to know things, and I like information. Even at home, I’m also researching. If I weren’t doing music, I would definitely be in journalism.”

Journalism is a noble profession which suits people who love to investigate and talk. Davido sees himself as a journalist; he has not been doing music.

“A lot of people in my position would just sit down and let everything work for them. People are asking me why I have the most followers, it’s because I’m working,” he said. The Nigerian artist has the numbers in terms of followers on social media, and he credits it to his always talking in the media.

“I know how hard Beyonce will work with all the money she has,” he added.

Davido was recently in the news after gifting a Ghanaian car washer and TikToker, Ananzo, $5k for promoting his latest song “With You”, which he featured fellow Nigerian star Omah Lay.
