The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has warned drivers and their mates to respect the government’s reduction of fuel, leading to a 15% reduction in the prices of lorry fares across the country. The 15% reduction has not been fully observed by drivers, with many even doubling the fares soon after 4 pm.
The KMA has arrested 22 drivers and their cars for unlawfully hiking prices of lorry fare, which is contrary to the government’s decision.
KMA announced via their X wall,
“KMA arrests 22 drivers for charging unapproved fares!
“Their vehicles have been impounded, with fines ranging from GH¢500–GH¢1,500. This comes after a 15% fare reduction took effect on May 24, 2025. KMA says: Overcharging is a criminal offence. Sanity must prevail.
The office of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has promised to deal with drivers who fail to respect the 15% reduction of lorry fares.
