Kumasi Asante Kotoko have opened discussions with the National Sports Authority (NSA) over a proposal that could see the Kumasi-based giants secure the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as their home venue for the entire 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

The Porcupine Warriors have submitted a proposal to the NSA to move away from the traditional match-by-match arrangement under which the club has historically paid to use the Kumasi stadium for individual home fixtures.

The proposal, according to a report by Akoma Sports, is intended to provide the club with greater certainty and control over its home-ground arrangements throughout the upcoming campaign.

Under the proposed agreement, Kotoko would have full control of the stadium on matchdays and retain the revenue generated from their home games, while the NSA would continue to be responsible for preparing and maintaining the facility to ensure it is ready for matches.

The proposal comes at a time when attention is firmly focused on the readiness of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium ahead of the start of the new Ghana Premier League season. The venue has been undergoing work and facility upgrades, with authorities seeking to ensure that it meets the requirements for hosting top-level domestic football.

NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah recently inspected the stadium, including the playing surface and other ongoing works, and expressed confidence that the facility would be ready to host matches when the 2026/27 Premier League campaign gets underway.

For Kotoko, securing a season-long arrangement could offer significant operational advantages. Rather than negotiating and making arrangements before each home fixture, the club would have a defined agreement covering its matches for the entire season, allowing management to plan its matchday operations, commercial activities and revenue generation with greater certainty.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium has traditionally served as Kotoko’s principal home ground and remains closely associated with the club’s long history and massive support base in Kumasi.

The venue has regularly attracted large crowds for the club’s league and continental fixtures, making access to a suitable home ground an important part of Kotoko’s preparations for every season.

The proposed arrangement would also give the Porcupine Warriors greater control over activities surrounding their home fixtures if the NSA approves the request.

However, the club’s proposal is yet to receive final approval, meaning discussions between the two sides will have to be concluded before any formal season-long agreement can be reached.

The NSA would remain responsible for preparing the stadium for matches under the proposal, while Kotoko would assume greater control over the facility on matchdays and retain proceeds generated from their games.
