Hearts of Oak have gone five straight games without a victory over their eternal rivals, Asante Kotoko, in the Ghana Premier League after they were narrowly beaten by the Porcupine Warriors at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The contest was so close until Hearts of Oak’s defender Yaw Baafi clipped Kotoko’s forward Amidu Acquah. Referee Reginald Collins hesitated but made sure he was so sure of his decision and awarded the Porcupine Warriors a penalty.

Guinean striker Morifing Donzo stepped up and scored from 12 yards to put the visitors ahead in the 45th minute.

Asante Kotoko defended so well in the second half and protected their lead.

After the game, Hearts of Oak’s head coach, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, who tasted his first competitive defeat since replacing Ouattara, bemoaned the penalty awarded against his side.

“It was so easy, even though we could have defended better,” Didi said.

“We’ve trained to be bold, courageous and to deal with players in a wider area rather than tracking back into our own area”, he added.

Asante Kotoko, with three games in hand, are five points behind leaders Aduana Stars, who have won 19 points from nine games.

Hearts of Oak sit in 5th position with three points adrift of the top slot.

Kotoko will welcome Vision on Wednesday at 3 pm in Kumasi for the outstanding week 7 fixture before hosting Aduana Stars on Sunday.

Hearts of Oak, on the other hand, will travel to Sweduru on Sunday to face All Blacks.
