A suspected assailant has been discovered dead along a roadside in the Sefwi Asafo area under circumstances that raise more questions than answers.

Kofi Obed, a man in his late 20s hailing from the nearby community of Sefwi Afere, was apprehended following an alleged dawn raid on the Continuation Church in the early hours of Saturday.

According to accounts provided by Frederick Kwarteng, the Assembly Member representing the Sefwi Asafo Electoral Area, Obed had been part of a group that descended on the church with intent to cause harm to worshippers.

The arrest seemed routine enough. Obed was taken into custody with the expectation that he would be transferred to police custody for formal processing.

That handover, however, never materialised. Instead, hours later, his lifeless body turned up abandoned along the roadside on Sefwi Asafo’s outer reaches — the precise sequence of events leading to his death shrouded in mystery.

Kwarteng confirmed that the Sefwi Asafo Police Station was notified of the discovery. Officers subsequently collected the body and transported it to St. John of God Mortuary in Sefwi Asafo, where it now rests pending investigation and preservation.

The remaining members of the group that allegedly staged the church attack remain at large, with police actively pursuing their whereabouts.

The circumstances surrounding Obed’s death — whether it resulted from an altercation, an act of retribution, or some other sequence of events — are now the focus of a formal police inquiry.
