The Circuit Court in Accra has instructed a man to pay a woman GHc200,000 for breaking his promise to marry her after their relationship ended.
Vince Kontoh, the Plaintiff, filed a lawsuit against Ernestina Torgbor requesting an order for eviction. The Defendant also filed a counterclaim for breach of promise to marry.
The Circuit Court in Accra, led by Justice Sedinam Awo Kwadam, who is a High Court judge with additional duties as a Circuit Court judge, stated that both parties should have an interest in the property.
Justice Kwadam’s Court denied the Plaintiff’s request for ejection and granted the Defendant’s counterclaim with the following order:
“The Plaintiff’s claim for ejectment is fully dismissed.” The court has ruled in favour of the Defendant regarding her counterclaim for breach of promise to marry.
The decision has divided opinions, with many men not happy with the judgment, while women across Ghana are excited.
