The New Patriotic Party’s United States branch (NPP-USA) is set to usher in a new era of leadership when delegates from across America converge in Westborough, Massachusetts, for the 2026 Branch Delegates Conference, where a new national executive team will be elected to spearhead the party’s activities in the diaspora ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Scheduled for Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26, 2026, the three-day conference is expected to attract hundreds of party delegates, chapter executives, supporters and invited guests from across the United States in what has become one of the largest and most influential gatherings of the NPP outside Ghana.
Beyond electing new leaders, the conference is expected to serve as a major platform for reviewing the party’s performance, strengthening organizational structures and outlining strategies aimed at helping the NPP return to power in the 2028 general elections following its defeat in the 2024 polls.
This year’s conference will be held under the theme, “Rooted in the Values of Our Founders, Rising to Secure Ghana’s Future,” reflecting the branch’s commitment to preserving the ideals upon which the New Patriotic Party was founded while repositioning itself to contribute meaningfully to the party’s rebuilding efforts.
The conference was announced in a statement issued by the Communication and Media Relations Committee of the NPP Massachusetts Chapter, which is hosting the event.
According to the organizers, the conference will provide delegates with an opportunity to renew the branch’s leadership through a democratic electoral process while strengthening unity among party members living in the United States.
The gathering is also expected to deliberate on measures to improve grassroots mobilization across the various NPP-USA chapters, expand membership, enhance fundraising efforts and deepen the contribution of the Ghanaian diaspora to the party’s activities both in the United States and Ghana.
The conference will be held under the leadership of the current NPP-USA Branch Chairperson, Obaa Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, with the Massachusetts Chapter, headed by Louis Amoako Mensah, serving as host.
One of the most keenly anticipated contests will be the election of a new Branch Chairperson.
Delegates will choose between Ing. Janis Asare-Bediako, the current Chairperson of the Washington Metro Chapter, and James Owusu, the First Vice Chairman of the NPP-USA Branch, who are both seeking to lead the organization into the next phase of its development.
In addition to the chairmanship race, delegates will elect an entire national executive team that will be responsible for directing the affairs of the U.S. branch, strengthening party structures across the various states and coordinating the branch’s support for the NPP’s activities in Ghana.
Organizers say the newly elected executives will be expected to play a critical role in mobilizing Ghanaian professionals and supporters living abroad as the party intensifies preparations for the 2028 elections.
The conference will also feature policy discussions and strategic sessions focusing on rebuilding the party after the 2024 electoral defeat, improving communication within the diaspora and enhancing collaboration between NPP-USA and the party’s national leadership in Ghana.
Several senior figures of the New Patriotic Party are expected to address the conference.
Among the speakers are Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and Chief of Staff at the Office of the NPP Flagbearer, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
The highlight of the conference is expected to be a keynote address by the NPP’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is anticipated to outline his vision for the party and Ghana while rallying members of the diaspora to play an active role in the campaign to reclaim political power.
