Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus has withdrawn from Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, according to 3Sports.

Kudus had been named in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad after making his return to the Black Stars following a lengthy injury lay-off that kept him out of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

The 26-year-old spent about seven months on the sidelines before beginning his return to competitive football with Tottenham.

He made three appearances as a substitute before being handed his first start since recovering from injury in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup meeting with Liverpool.

His reported withdrawal is a setback for Queiroz, who had included Kudus among a group of returning players expected to strengthen Ghana as they begin their campaign to qualify for the 2027 AFCON.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed Kudus’ return to the national team on 18 September, describing him as one of several players back in the squad after missing the World Cup.

Ghana are due to begin their qualifying campaign away to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on 24 September. The Black Stars will then host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 29 September.

They are also scheduled to travel to Morocco for an international friendly against the Atlas Lions on 4 October.

Kudus’ withdrawal comes after Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi said earlier this month that the forward was still working towards full fitness following his extended absence.

The Ghana FA had not announced a replacement for Kudus at the time of publication.

For Ghana, the immediate focus will now turn to how Queiroz reshapes his attacking options ahead of the opening qualifier in Côte d’Ivoire.
