Hungary had high hopes of entering Euro 24 but it seems it is all over for the Magyars.

It has been an extremely difficult tournament for Marco Rossi’s Hungary after losing their first two games leaving them on the brink of crashing out of the tournament.

In Stuttgart, Germany defeated Hungary 2-0 to become the first side to book their spot in the knockout stage.

Hungary nearly took the lead with barely a minute played with Neuer blocking Rolland Sallai’s effort.

Bayer Munich’s youngster Jamal Musiala opened the scoring for Germany after Barcelona midfielder Gundogan neatly played the ball into his path and the forward expertly fired a shot off the crossbar to make it 1-0.

Hungary had been better in the first 21 minutes and the goal conceded demoralised them because they were challenging Germany all over the pitch.

Szoboszlai thought he had equalised for Hungary after delivering an inch-perfect free kick with Neuer unbelievably saving it in the 26th minute.

Gundogan doubled Germany’s lead after connecting Maximilian Mittelstädt’s pinpoint accurate cross in the 67th minute. It was the end of the day for Hungary as they never believed there was a way back for them.

Germany protected their lead and ended the game with a 2-0 victory. The host nation has qualified for R16 as Hungary has a very slim mathematical chance of progressing. The Magyar’s fate lies in the hands of so many teams.
