Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says it seized or froze assets worth GH¢638.8 million between 2023 and 2026. Actual recoveries over the longer 2022 to 2026 period stand at about GH¢43.4 million.
The OSP disclosed the figures on 27 October 2026, and Chale News reported them.
They show the scale of the agency’s asset-restraint work and the gap between assets restrained and money returned to the state.
The largest component by far was GH¢516 million linked to a counterfeit currency syndicate in 2023. That single case makes up about 81 per cent of the total.
In 2025, the agency recorded about GH¢102.7 million in seized or frozen assets. These comprised GH¢96.58 million in property and GH¢3.83 million in cash equivalents.
For 2026, the OSP reported GH¢20.12 million in seized or frozen assets, made up of luxury vehicles, a residential property and frozen bank accounts.
On recoveries, the OSP reported GH¢31.21 million in 2025 and GH¢8.27 million in 2026. Together, these two years account for GH¢39.48 million of the roughly GH¢43.4 million recovered.
