A 200kVA pole-mounted transformer serving the Nkumkrom hamlet under the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality has been knocked down by some unidentified individuals, leaving the area completely dark.
The event took place on Friday, February 2, 2024.
A statement issued by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), said the thieves stole the copper windings in the transformer, leaving behind an empty metal case.
The company said the transformer is estimated at GHS80,000.00.
Mr. Emmanuel Ankrah, the acting General Manager of Accra West Region expressed worry about the incident and pleaded with residents and customers to reports any suspicious activities around ECG installations.
He said that the incident has been reported to the police and investigations are ongoing to identify the culprits.
