The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a criminal syndicate believed to be behind a spate of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its surrounding areas.

In a press statement dated 3 November 2026 and signed by Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the Command said an IGP’s Special Team carried out the operation at about 11:30 pm on 31 October 2026.

The team was made up of personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.

Acting on intelligence, the team picked up two Nigerian nationals, Aboy Promise, 30, and Favour Uwalaka, 45, at a hotel in Moshie Zongo.

A search of their rooms reportedly turned up GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key allegedly used to break into victims’ vehicles and take cash.

According to the police, the two men admitted taking part in the robberies and named two accomplices, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.

They then led officers to another hotel at Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley, 35, also a Nigerian, was arrested. Chinedu is still at large.

Preliminary investigations suggest the gang watched banking halls, singled out customers who withdrew large sums and followed them before attacking and robbing them. Members also allegedly broke into parked vehicles belonging to bank customers and stole cash left inside.

The police said the suspects admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, after the person had withdrawn the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also reportedly carried out similar attacks at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations in the Kumasi area.

The three suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.

The Command is appealing to the public for information on the whereabouts of Chinedu. Anyone with a lead should go to the nearest police station or call 191 or 112, or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.

The police also urged bank customers to stay alert to suspicious persons around banking premises and not to leave cash or valuables unattended in vehicles. They thanked the public for its cooperation and assured residents of its commitment to fighting robbery and other crimes in the region.
