Two injured in head-on collision at Fianko

Two people have sustained injuries after a fuel tanker and a Kia Frontier truck collided head-on at Fianko, near Family Village, in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said personnel from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responded to the crash on Wednesday, July 22, following a distress call received at about 5:41 p.m.

The accident involved a DAF fuel tanker transporting about 54,000 litres of fuel and a Kia Frontier light truck.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene conducted a search of both vehicles and confirmed that no occupants were trapped in the wreckage.

Preliminary findings suggest that the driver of the Kia Frontier allegedly lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into the oncoming fuel tanker.

The collision left both vehicles extensively damaged, with two men sustaining injuries. Authorities have not yet released their identities or details about their current conditions.

Due to the large quantity of fuel involved, the GNFS secured the area and implemented safety measures to prevent any possible fire outbreak or explosion.

After ensuring the scene was safe, firefighters handed over the accident site to the appropriate authorities for further recovery and clearance operations.
