Nigeria showed a complete dominance over the Black Stars at the Brentford Community Stadium in London in the semi-final of the Unity Cup.
Nigeria and Ghana’s clashes have not failed to live up to the expectations since the 1950s, and the fixture on Wednesday night in London was no exception.
Cyriel Dessers in the 14th minute opened the scoring for the Super Eagles after putting Ghana under immense pressure. Five minutes later, Nigeria doubled their lead through Nations FC’s centre back Razak Simpson’s own goal. With just 19 minutes played, Ghana were down by 2-0 goals, with many fearing for the Black Stars because the Nigerians were looking incredible.
The Super Eagles went to break with a 2-0 lead. Otto Addo needed to make changes to strengthen his side. Kamaradinin Mamudu was replaced by Caleb Yirenkyi, with Thomas-Asante Brandon replacing Kwame Poku before the start of the second half. The changes helped Ghana put up a fight, with Brandon Thomas-Asante scoring in the 70th minute to reduce the deficit.
Nigeria protected their 2-1 lead and won against their bitter rivals, Ghana. It was the second time Nigeria had beaten Ghana in a friendly since the return of Otto Addo as the head coach of Ghana.
Nigeria will play against Jamaica in the finals of the Unity Cup 2025.
