Ghana is on the verge of writing a new chapter in Premier League history, with “Visit Ghana” set to become the main front-of-shirt sponsor of newly promoted Sunderland AFC in a record £10 million-a-year partnership.
Reports emerging from England indicate that Sunderland are preparing to unveil the new sponsor ahead of their Premier League clash with Arsenal, alongside a separate seven-figure sleeve sponsorship deal.
If confirmed, the agreement would rank as the most lucrative shirt sponsorship in the Black Cats’ history.
The deal traces back to an announcement by the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who revealed the private sector-led initiative on the floor of the House.
Bagbin explained that the project is not government-funded but is being driven by private business interests, with support from the Ghana Football Association, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Ministry of Finance.
He described the campaign as part of a broader push to market Ghana’s tourism, culture, and heritage to a global football audience through Sunderland’s Premier League exposure.
The timing works in Ghana’s favour. Sunderland entered the 2026/27 season as the only Premier League club without a front-of-shirt sponsor, after the league-wide ban on gambling sponsorship ended their previous deal with betting firm W88.
That gap left the Black Cats searching for a replacement, and Visit Ghana’s entry is expected to fill it dramatically just as the club prepares to face Arsenal on matchday 3 of the English Premier League on Saturday 12th September 2026 at 7 pm at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.
Should the partnership go ahead as reported, “Visit Ghana” branding would appear not only on matchday shirts but across club paraphernalia, giving the country’s tourism brand exposure through Premier League broadcasts, digital platforms, and international media reaching millions of fans worldwide.
For Ghana, the deal represents more than football exposure, as it is being positioned as a strategic tool to attract tourists and investors while showcasing the country’s cultural and historical attractions on one of world sport’s biggest stages
