Former President of Ghana and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has revealed how if he is voted into power, he will transform Ghana Football.

Speaking on Ghana’s horrible and embarrassing performance in the 2023 AFCON, the former president expressed his sadness about Ghana’s group stage exit.

“We just came from the Africa Cup of Nations, and we performed abysmally and disastrously”, said Mahama.

The NDC flagbearer revealed that Ghana struggled in Ivory Coast because we don’t plan for the future in our football.

“We performed abysmally because we are not growing our football and so we are going to work with the Ghana Football Association to start catching them young so that we can train them and give them to local teams to gain experience before they want to travel abroad they can travel,” he added.

The former vice-president revealed that his administration will work with the GFA to nurture players for the local league before players are allowed to travel.

John Dramani Mahama lamented the country’s love for foreign players for their dominance in the Black Stars and talked about the need to build the team around local players.

“We will build the new Black Stars based on homegrown players—domestic players who have trained together for a long time and work as a team. Then we will bring the foreign players to come and blend with them,” he clarified.

“If you bring only foreign players, they don’t play together in their teams, and then when it is time for competition, you bring them and come and tell them to play, it won’t work,” said Mahama.

John Dramani Mahama promised to make total changes to the way football is run in the country and will join hands with the Ghana Football Association to improve football.

“We are going to overhaul Ghana football in collaboration with the Football Association,” concluded Mahama.

Ghana’s football needs a huge saviour as the people in charge are not ready to save it. The national teams have failed for quite a long time and local football is very horrible.
