What began as a week of student celebrations at Koforidua Technical University ended in a major anti-narcotics operation after the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) arrested 10 students for allegedly producing and selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice cream during the institution’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week festivities.
The intelligence-led operation, carried out on Sunday, August 3, 2026, targeted a group of students suspected of operating an illicit drug distribution network on campus.
According to NACOC, the suspects were allegedly involved in the production, distribution and sale of cannabis-infused beverages and ice cream to students and other patrons participating in the Hall Week celebrations.
Authorities identified 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh as the suspected leader of the group. She was arrested alongside nine other students believed to have played various roles in the alleged operation, ranging from preparing the products to marketing and selling them during the event.
According to the Commission, the arrests followed intelligence gathered over a period of time, leading investigators to monitor the suspects before moving in to disrupt their operation.
NACOC said the suspects were apprehended while they were allegedly selling the infused products to students and visitors attending activities organised as part of the university’s annual Hall Week celebrations.
Investigators believe the operation extended beyond simple sales, alleging that members of the group were involved at every stage of the supply chain, including the preparation, packaging, distribution and retail sale of the products on campus.
The SRC Hall Week is one of the most anticipated events on the calendars of many tertiary institutions in Ghana.
