It was all a Bono affair as Nsoatreman and Tano Bofoakwa squared off at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for the finals of the 2023-24 MTN FA Cup.

History was made as Nsoatreman became the first team from the Bono Region to win the FA Cup and the second team to also win it from the Bono-Ahafo Region after Bechem United won it in 2016 by beating Okwawu United 2-1.

It was always going to be a difficult game for Nsoatreman as no one knew what exactly the beleaguered Tano Bofoakwa was bringing on board.

Beaten and bruised in the last five games of the GPL, John Eduafo’s team were entering the game on a very low note. Many wondered where exactly they were going to get the motivation to face Nsoatreman.

Considered huge underdogs in the tie, Bofoakwa was dominated for most of the first half even though they prevented Nsoatreman from creating a single shot on target.

Former Kotoku Royals’ forward Richard Dzikoe scored in the 22nd minute from Bofoakwa’s only shot on target in the first half. It was very surprising as Bofoakwa was not given much chance in this game.

Nsoatreman equalised in 79 minutes much to the disappointment of Bofoakwa’s fans as they thought they had defended well and hence needed to protect their lead with the 1-0 lead.

The game travelled to extra time after both teams found it difficult to snatch the winner.

Penalty kicks were required to determine the winner with Maxwell Konadu’s Nsoatreman winning 5-4 against John Eduafo’s Bofoakwa Tano.

It was the second time Bofoakwa Tano had lost in the finals of the FA Cup after losing to Accra Great Olympics in 1983.
