Another suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing of a man identified as Abeiku during violent clashes between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba in the Central Region, bringing the total number of suspects apprehended to eight.
The suspect was picked up on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in an operation facilitated by Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus.
Footage of the arrest showed the suspect in handcuffs at a police station as A-Plus confronted him over the alleged killing, an accusation the suspect denied, insisting he had no hand in Abeiku’s death.
Addressing the suspect, A-Plus said the arrest was proof that those allegedly behind the violence would be tracked down, warning that the incident should serve as a lesson to other young people believed to be involved.
According to the MP, the suspect had gone into hiding following the clash before being traced and arrested.
The arrest is linked to a violent confrontation on September 1, when residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom reportedly entered New Winneba and attempted to lock up shops, prompting resistance from residents that escalated into gunfire.
The clash, rooted in a longstanding land dispute between the communities, left three people dead and 17 others injured.
Police say investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons believed to have participated in the violence, as authorities continue efforts to restore calm to the affected communities.
