The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has arrived in Canada to participate in the prestigious “Beyond the World Cup” forum organized by the Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, a visit expected to deepen economic, cultural and diplomatic relations between Ghana and Canada.
The highly respected traditional ruler received a warm and ceremonial welcome upon his arrival, reflecting his stature not only as the King of the Asante Kingdom but also as one of the most influential traditional leaders whose contributions to governance, peacebuilding and development have earned him international recognition.
Among the dignitaries who received the Asantehene were Canada’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat; the High Commissioner to Canada, Prof Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh; former Chief of the Defence Staff of Ghana and deputy High Commissioner, Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah; as well as several distinguished guests from both the Ghanaian and Canadian communities.
Otumfuo’s participation in the Beyond the World Cup event comes at a time when Ghana and Canada continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, education, tourism and cultural exchange.
The forum is expected to bring together policymakers, business leaders, investors, development partners and members of the Ghanaian diaspora to explore opportunities that extend beyond football and the global excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup.
Organizers say the initiative seeks to leverage the international visibility created by the World Cup to promote sustainable economic partnerships, business opportunities and long-term development cooperation between participating countries and institutions.
The Asantehene’s involvement is particularly significant given his longstanding role in promoting investment, education and socio-economic development both within Ghana and internationally.
Over the years, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has become a respected global statesman whose influence extends far beyond traditional leadership.
Through the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, he has championed initiatives in education, healthcare, water and sanitation, youth empowerment and community development, impacting thousands of lives across Ghana.
His leadership has also attracted international partnerships with governments, educational institutions and development organizations seeking to support Ghana’s development agenda.
Observers believe his presence at the Canada forum will add considerable prestige to discussions aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and attracting investment opportunities that can benefit both countries.
The visit also highlights the increasingly important role traditional leaders play in economic diplomacy and international engagement.
In recent years, Otumfuo has represented Ghana at major global conferences, investment forums and diplomatic events where he has advocated for stronger partnerships to support Africa’s growth and development.
The Beyond the World Cup forum is expected to focus on areas including trade promotion, entrepreneurship, tourism development, sports business opportunities, innovation and diaspora engagement.
Stakeholders believe such engagements can create new avenues for investment and collaboration while strengthening people-to-people relations between Ghana and Canada.
