Frimpong Manso tasted his first defeat at home at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani since replacing the late Michael Osei as the head coach of Bibiani Gold Stars on 7th December 2023.

Relegation-threatened Karela United made a long trip from Tamale to Bibiani, with many giving them a 5 per cent chance of beating the league leaders. Still, it never prevented them from achieving their objective.

Karela’s 1-0 win at Gold Stars could easily be the most shocking result of the season. The club had gone nine away matches without a win, with two draws and seven defeats. Gold Stars had won 11 and drawn three of the 14 games played at home ahead of the Karela clash.

They were the overwhelming favourites, considering that a win could have put them on the brink of the title. A 44th-minute strike from Mohammed Asigre stunned Dun’s Park as it was the only goal of the game.

Karela never looked like a team battling relegation in Bibiani. They capitalised on Gold Stars’ panic and fear that had set in the squad at the tail end of the season. Karela exchanged blows with the leaders who are three or four steps ahead of the strugglers and won all three points.

Gold Stars remains on top with two points ahead of second-placed Nations, who won 1-0 at home against Accra Lions.
