Black Sherif and German ambassador share music, stories and table-tennis contest

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif met German Ambassador to Ghana Frederik Landshoft at the German Residence, where a shared appreciation of the rapper’s music led to an informal conversation about songs, family and personal stories.

Landshoft told Black Sherif that his interest in the musician’s work began in Berlin in 2022, after he heard “Kwaku the Traveller”. The song made a lasting impression and went on to become the ambassador’s personal song of the year.

That connection continued after Landshoft moved to Ghana with his family. Tracks such as “Lomo Lomo” and “IRON BOY” became regular favourites in their household.

The family’s admiration took on a more personal dimension in 2025, when they attended Black Sherif’s performance at Zaama Disco. The musician had been included on their Christmas wish list, making the subsequent meeting at the German Residence particularly meaningful for them.

Black Sherif visited the ambassador with members of his team. Although the occasion began as a meeting between the musician and a diplomatic representative, the discussion developed into a relaxed exchange focused on the artist’s music and experiences.

The pair spoke about some of Black Sherif’s favourite songs and the inspiration and stories behind his work. They also discussed his latest EP, SUN SHERIF, which has continued to attract attention from listeners.

The meeting later moved away from music when Black Sherif and Landshoft played table tennis. Black Sherif won the friendly contest by a narrow margin.

Afterwards, Landshoft congratulated the musician on the release of SUN SHERIF and praised his humility and thoughtful personality.

The encounter highlighted the reach of Black Sherif’s music beyond Ghana, with his songs resonating with listeners from different cultural backgrounds.
