A 45-year-old farmer has been sentenced to five years in jail by the Circuit court in Yendi, Northern Region.
He was sentenced for making threats to assassinate the District Chief Executive for Chereponi in violation of section 75 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960, Act 29.
On November 20, the accused Abubakari Numburu, a farmer and resident of Kwame Nansoni in the Chereponi district in the North East Region, allegedly threatened Nashiru Zuwera Muda, the district chief executive for the area, over the phone, saying, “I kill you if you dare enter Chereponi.”
This information was provided by the prosecutor, D/C/Inspector Nicodemus York.
Later on, the complainant reported the incident to the police in Chereponi.
The police located and apprehended the suspect with the help of National Security.
The defendant acknowledged the offense in his caution statement, and the court, presided over by H/H Justice Francis Ayamwuni Asobayire, accepted his plea and sentenced him to five years in prison.
