DStv is reducing its package prices across Sub-Saharan Africa and cutting the number of main bundles from six to four, as parent company Canal+ launches its “Expect More” campaign.

The revised line-up will be introduced on 5 November 2026, with Premium renamed Ultimate. The four packages will be called Starter, Select, Sports and Ultimate, with prices reduced in several markets.

For the first time, every Premier League match will be included in the mid-tier Sports package.

In Ghana, the government said it had reached an agreement with MultiChoice Ghana and Canal+ to make pay-TV more affordable and help tackle the use of pirated “ghost boxes”.

Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, said at a press conference with DStv and Canal+ on Monday, 26 October 2026, that the discussions were focused on protecting consumers.

“How do we put content in the hands or in the homes of Ghanaian families at a price that is affordable? The Ghanaian consumer is our ultimate interest,” he said.

Ghana’s new monthly prices for Starter, Select, Sports and Ultimate will be GH¢50, GH¢100, GH¢250 and GH¢570 respectively.

In Kenya, the packages will cost KES 750 for Starter, KES 1,500 for Select, KES 3,000 for Sports and KES 7,300 for Ultimate. The Ultimate price represents a reduction from KES 11,700, and the same rates will apply to DStv Stream.

MultiChoice has lost 57,000 subscribers in Kenya during the first half of the year, leaving it with 653,066 customers.

The Starter package will offer 116 channels, while Select will have 149 and Sports 159. Sports will include all Premier League, Champions League and Europa League matches, alongside WWE and UFC content.

Ultimate will provide 180 channels, including Formula 1, MotoGP, cricket, rugby, ATP tennis and golf.

East African customers will also receive two new channels: SuperSport Swahili and SuperSport Kickoff, which will show selected live football matches.

Uganda’s packages were announced at Shs25,000, Shs60,000, Shs100,000 and Shs185,000.

South Africa and Botswana will retain five bouquets rather than moving to four, although their Premium package will also be renamed Ultimate.

MultiChoice targets subscriber growth

MultiChoice Kenya chief executive Nzola Miranda said the changes were intended to reverse years of subscriber losses.

“You either increase prices, you get more money from fewer people, or you increase the number of customers, even if they pay less,” he said at the launch at Radisson Blu Nairobi.

“We now belong to a global group with a different philosophy. The more people who watch our content, the better.”
