At the Hohoe Park, Medeama SC let slip a comfortable 2-0 lead after taking a commanding lead against Heart of Lions.

Bernardino Tetteh scored the first goal for Medeama SC in the 34th minute. The defending champions went to the first half leading by a goal comfortably.

In the second half, it was a very tight affair as both teams struggled to score until Ruben Hennessy scored an own goal for Mauve and Yellow to make the scoreline 2-0 in the 70th minute.

With just 20 minutes left and 2-0 up, many thought Medeama was going to walk away with a win but Bashir Hayford’s rejuvenated Heart of Lions had a different plan as they doubled their effort and won a penalty in the 80th minute.

26-year-old Ebenezer Abban calmly reduced the 2-0 deficit by scoring from the penalty kick.

Ruben Hennessy who scored an own goal to give Medeama a 2-0 lead redeemed himself by scoring a 94th-minute equaliser to secure an incredible 2-2 draw for Heart of Lions.

Heart of Lions remains bottom of the table but has closed the gap to just three points between the 15th-placed team, Tano Bofoakwa.

Medeama has moved to 8th place having secured 25 points from 17 matches. The defending champions are separated by seven points from the top of the table

Karela United and Dreams FC drew 0-0 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. Karela United is 16th on the log having won 17 points from 17 games whereas Dreams FC are 10th with 22 points.

Wednesday’s fixtures concluded the first round of the 2023-24 Ghana Premier League as every team has played the expected 17 matches.

The Second Round resumes on 24th February.
