Ghana goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott has joined Slovakian club FC Kosice on a short-term contract until the end of 2026.
The deal includes an option for the club to extend the 30-year-old’s contract until 2027.
Wollacott has already spent two weeks training with Kosice and will now compete with Matus Kira and Filip Kalanin for the club’s starting goalkeeping position.
His arrival comes after the departure of Kevin Dabrowski at the end of the summer transfer window, with Kosice looking to bring in an experienced goalkeeper to strengthen their squad.
Kosice sporting director Terry Westley said Wollacott’s experience and professionalism were key factors in the decision to sign him.
“We were looking for an experienced goalkeeper who would naturally fit into the environment and culture of our club,” Westley said.
“Joe is a professional in every way and is ready to pass on his experience.”
Wollacott, who was born in Bristol, has spent most of his career in England, playing for Bristol City, Forest Green Rovers, Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic and Crawley Town.
He also spent the 2023-24 season with Scottish club Hibernian.
The goalkeeper has made 12 appearances for Ghana and was part of the Black Stars’ senior set-up.
His move to Slovakia represents the first time Wollacott will play outside England, and he sees the switch as an opportunity to experience a different football culture while taking on a new challenge.
“This project appealed to me. I saw that this is a significant club that is moving in the right direction,” Wollacott said.
“It is also a personal challenge for me to go abroad and try something new.”
Wollacott said he had received a warm welcome from his new team-mates and was looking forward to competing for a place in the starting XI.
“I want to play, help the club get to where we want to get together, and I believe that we have a successful season ahead of us,” he added.
Wollacott will now hope to establish himself at Kosice as he begins the first overseas chapter of his professional career.
