Renowned coach Chris Hughton has unveiled his 25-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic, set to unfold in Kumasi this month.

Notably, Medeama SC’s star striker, Jonathan Sowah, has received a well-deserved call-up to the national team. Sowah, formerly of Danbort FC, made a significant impact upon joining the champions during the second transfer window, showcasing his prowess by netting an impressive 12 goals to aid his team in clinching the League title.

In a further boost for the squad, Elisha Owusu and Baba Iddrisu are back in action following their respective recoveries from injuries.

Baba Iddrisu, who missed the FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to injury, is eager to make his mark, while Elisha Owusu, who sustained an injury in February, is poised to make his return to the Ghanaian national team after being absent since the FIFA World Cup finals in November of the previous year.

Another notable returnee to the squad is Richard Ofori, a goalkeeper currently plying his trade in South Africa.

Ofori has been absent from the Ghanaian national team since September 27, 2022, when Ghana emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Nicaragua in a pre-World Cup friendly held in Lorca, Spain.

However, there is a notable absence from the squad in the form of Arsenal’s talented midfielder, Thomas Partey.

Unfortunately, Partey has been sidelined due to an injury sustained during training, and the exact duration of his absence remains uncertain. The Black Stars medical team is closely monitoring his condition, with hopes of a swift recovery.

Ghana is gearing up to host the Central African Republic in their final Group E encounter, scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

The match promises to be a crucial showdown as both teams vie for a place in the Africa Cup of Nations, adding an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming football action.
