Newly appointed Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu had his taste of African Football when Hearts of Oak lost 6-2 on aggregate in the CAF Champions League to Wydad in the 2021-22 season in the final after beating Kamsar of Guinea 2-0 in the semi-final round of the qualifiers.

Sharing his ideas on Dreams FC’s quarter-final tie against Stade Malian, the former Hearts of Oak boss declared his support for Dreams FC.

“I hope Dreams FC wins the Confederations Cup to increase our slots,” said Samuel Boadu.

Ghana was among the countries that had 2 slots each for the CAF Champions League and the Confederations Cup back in the early 2000s as the nation’s clubs were among the best on the continent. Along the way, Ghanaian clubs were nowhere to be found in the competitions as they went off for 12 years without winning a slot in the Money Zone of the CAF Champions League.

Medeama and Dreams made it to the group stages of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup respectively which will certainly boost Ghana’s chances of getting the 2 slots back shortly albeit Ghanaian clubs need to be consistent.

Samuel Boadu is hoping that Dreams can go all the way to the finals defy the odds and lift the trophy to make Ghana’s chances brighter for the battle for the 2 slots.

Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Sudan and Angola are among the top nations that have two slots each in the CAF Club competitions.
