A 40-year-old man, identified as Yaw Nyarko, has lost his life at Akyem Batabi in the Eastern Region after he allegedly tried to rape a woman and was fatally attacked by her 28-year-old brother, Bismarck Gbafa.
Gbafa has since turned himself in to the Akyem Oda Police and is currently helping investigators with their inquiries.
According to residents, the deceased had earlier in the day allegedly attempted to sexually assault Celina Gbafa but did not succeed.
Reports indicate that upon arriving home, Celina told her brother she had been attacked by Yaw Nyarko while returning from her farm at Akyem Batabi — he allegedly hit her with a stick and tried to rape her.
Although Nyarko was said to be carrying a machete, Celina reportedly managed to break free from his hold and flee the scene.
Her account of the ordeal is said to have angered Bismarck Gbafa, who allegedly went after Nyarko. In the confrontation that followed, Gbafa allegedly used a machete to slash Nyarko’s left leg, resulting in heavy bleeding. Nyarko reportedly collapsed at the scene and subsequently died from his wounds.
Once he realised Nyarko had died, Bismarck Gbafa reported himself to the police and gave officers an account of what had happened.
Yaw Nyarko’s body has been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending an autopsy, as police continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
