Minority jabs gov’t over education gaps, urges BECE candidates to rise above challenges

The Minority Caucus Committee on Education in Parliament has coupled a message of encouragement to candidates sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with a sharp critique of the National Democratic Congress government’s handling of the education sector.

In a statement issued on May 4, 2026, the Committee acknowledged the resilience of students across the country while raising concerns about persistent challenges confronting the education system.

According to the Minority, many candidates are writing the examination under difficult conditions shaped by gaps in infrastructure, learning resources, and policy implementation, despite government claims of progress through initiatives such as Free Senior High School (Free SHS) and Free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The Committee maintained that while these policies hold promise, their execution has not fully addressed the realities faced by students at the basic level, determining candidates even more commendable.

Amid the criticism, the Minority extended warm congratulations and encouragement to all BECE candidates, urging them to remain focused and confident as they undertake the examination.

The Committee praised the sacrifices of parents, teachers, and guardians, noting that the success of the candidates represents not only a personal achievement but also a crucial step toward national development.

It further assured students that regardless of systemic challenges, their hard work and dedication will yield results, expressing optimism that the future remains bright in the hands of its young learners.
