In his campaign ahead of the 2024 General Elections, the flagbearer of the opposition party, John Dramani Mahama, promised to cut the unnecessary costs the government was incurring, which were financially crippling the nation.

Among his target areas was to entirely scrap all the fuel allowances Ghanaian politicians have been enjoying.

The president has honoured his promise by abolishing all the fuel allowances government appointees have been enjoying. The information was announced to Ghanaians by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Tuesday, July 15.

“The latest cost-cutting measure follows sweeping reductions in the size of government through the appointment of fewer Ministers and Presidential Office staff.

“Other measures have included stopping satellite TV subscriptions for offices at the Presidency and other government facilities,” the statement, which was shared by the Minister’s Facebook page, said.

Already, John Mahama is working with a few ministers as compared to the erstwhile government. The satellite TV subscription, which costs a huge sum of cedis at the end of every month, has also been scrapped.
