Pressure is mounting on the Ghana Football Association after The Gambia’s 4-2 thumping of the Black Stars in matchday 2 of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The Scorpions of Gambia added to Ghana’s woes by coming from two goals down to record an unforgettable victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Goals – a penalty from Ernest Nuamah and a superb free kick from Afena-Gyan put Ghana in a great lead, but two quick strikes from Muhammed Badamosi and Omar Colley in a space of four minutes restored parity before the break. Ebrima Colley of Konyaspor, who replaced the injured Bamba Sanyang in the 59th minute, delivered the knock-out blow by scoring in the 68th and 91st minutes to send Jonny McKinstry’s side to pure football heaven.

As expected, there will be immense calls for the disbandment of the Ghana Football Association from Ghanaians who are worried about the team’s recent performances.

The latest big personality to have called for the disbandment of the team and the sacking of the GFA president, Kurt Edwin Okraku, is Ningo-Prampram’s Member of Parliament who doubles up as the Minister at the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam ‘Dzata’ George.

He wrote on his X wall

“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for 2 years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts, but the patchwork is worse. Cheers”.

Sam George has been calling for the sacking of the president of the Ghana Football Association since 2021, and he still remains resolute in his bid for the restructuring of Ghana’s football.

He continued, “My position on the dissolution of the Black Stars is well documented and remains my personal position. These are from 2021 and 2024”.

Ghana is in a deep mess and will need new ideas in the coaching department and the hierarchy. The Black Stars have won just one game in their last 12 appearances, having lost nine and drawn two. The only victory came against Panama when Yirenkyi’s late goal helped the Black Stars secure a hard-fought 1-0 win over the North Americans in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will play home and away ties against Somalia in November in matchdays 3 and 4 of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

It remains unknown whether the beleaguered Carlos Queiroz will lead the team or not.
