A 37-year-old herbalist and self-acclaimed spiritualist has spent two weeks behind bars after allegedly making off with a commercial taxi belonging to a client he had promised to help with spiritual troubles.
Enock Antwi, popularly known as Nana Kakali and based at Wassa Nkran, was remanded by the Assin Fosu District Court over the alleged theft of a Hyundai Atos taxi, registered GT 6165-21, from driver Benjamin Akyerefi Baidoo, also known as Nana Maaley, at Assin Manso in the Central Region.
Court proceedings revealed that the two men first crossed paths on July 1, 2026, when Antwi travelled to Assin Manso to buy a dove for a spiritual ritual and struck up a relationship with the driver, later offering to resolve what he described as the man’s spiritual afflictions.
On July 17, Antwi visited Baidoo’s home to prepare a spiritual concoction, and that evening the driver invited him along on a trip to deliver items to a relative.
When the taxi broke down en route, Baidoo reportedly pressed on by foot to complete the delivery, leaving Antwi to keep watch over the vehicle. By the time he returned, both his taxi and his passenger had vanished, and subsequent attempts to reach Antwi failed after his phone number went dead.
Baidoo reported the disappearance to the Cybercrime Unit on August 12, prompting investigators to obtain court-authorised telecommunications data from MTN Ghana that traced Antwi to a hideout in Agona Swedru, where he was arrested on August 23. Police say Antwi confessed to stealing the vehicle and offloading it to scrap dealers in Suhum for GH¢7,000, of which he had received an initial GH¢2,500.
A subsequent police raid on the scrap site recovered the taxi intact. Appearing before the court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, Antwi pleaded for leniency and described the alleged theft as a “mistake,” but the court remanded him into police custody for two weeks to allow investigators to complete their work.
He is due to reappear before the Assin Fosu District Court on September 8, 2026.
