Prominent Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer Zapp Mallet got into hot water after he expressed skepticism on Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s capacity to surpass the record for the longest singing marathon set by Guinness World Records.

Zapp Mallet adopted a different view, doubting Asantewaa’s chances of success, while the entertainer from Ghana, Asantewaa, received tremendous support as she set out on this ambitious voyage.

Zapp discussed his opinions about the current singing marathon on his X page, casting doubt on Asantewaa’s tactics and vocal range.

He remarked, “Even professional singers won’t attempt a feat like this without a voice coach around to be coaching what to do. No strategy. Just play, I will sing.”

He continued, saying he was worried about her voice and that she needed help to stay on pitch and not get tired.

Netizens were dissatisfied with Zapp Mallet’s sudden skepticism, and this swiftly led to a backlash.

One person emphasized the contradiction between Zapp’s standing in the industry and the supposedly severe criticism, saying “Though there are going to be naysayers around everything you do in life, some of us didn’t expect you on this side, Uncle. With your reputation, your silence could have been louder.”

Zapp Mallet has finally come out with a public apology today, December 27, 2023, after feeling the pressure from the online community.

He said in his statement that he regretted his decision and begged for pardon.

He wrote, “Guys, guys, guys, I’m so, so sorry. I just realized I was judging Afua Asantewaa so hard. Plz forgive me. I didn’t know the rules. But I said some of the things out of concern for her. Pls don’t get me wrong. I’m behind her just like every Ghanaian.”
