Dreams FC’s journey to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup was masterminded tactically by the great Abdul Karim-Zito. The master tactician proved that he was an elite coach by having an antidote to all the problems he faced except Zamalek’s challenge in Oseikrom in their 3-0 thrashing.

The 63-year-old veteran head coach in an interview on Luv FM’s Kickoff show narrated what he has learned so far in playing in Africa.

“It was not easy seriously playing in Africa when you look at the other teams we played, their governments are helping them.

Many countries on the continent’s government have taken it upon themselves to empower their clubs financially to ensure a successful campaign in African inter-club competitions.

“And again, seriously, I’m pleading with the government to come to the aid of Ghana football or else we will not go anywhere,” said Zito.

The veteran head coach has implored Ghana’s government to financially back teams that will play in Africa or their efforts will be in vain.

“If the government doesn’t come in, for me we should stop football for at least ten years and bring all the stakeholders on board to fashion out what to do to make the teams sustainable financially.

“Because of what I saw in other countries and venues, in Tunisia for instance in the dressing room they have a swimming pool just for ice baths, just imagine this. In Angola, the coaches’ office alone is more than a dressing room of a club in Ghana. We really have a long way to go if we want to make an impression on the continent,” Zito concluded.

The Dreams FC head coach suggested a ten-year break in football for the clubs for all stakeholders to come on board if the government is not ready to support them. He revealed how other countries have developed in terms of football while Ghana is nowhere near them.
