The Elephants fantastically began their campaign with a 2-0 win against Guinea Bissau in the capital, Abidjan.
After a beautiful display in the opening ceremony, Ivory Coast started the game on a bright note as they opened the scoring with a brilliant goal after<span;> unleashing a breathtaking strike to give the home team the lead after just three minutes.
It was Fofana’s first goal at the AFCON and his 6th for Ivory Coast. The host Ivory Coast protected their lead before the first half.
Phillipe Krasso doubled the Elephant’s lead in the 58th minute as he produced a very good judgement before volleying the ball past Ouaparine Djoco to give Ivory Coast a commanding 2-0 lead.
Guinea Bissau fought and fought pretty well but could not find the back of the net. Ivory Coast won 2-0 in the opening game with Seko Fafana being voted as the man of the match.
Group A action continues tomorrow at the Stade Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan with the Super Eagles of Nigeria playing Equatorial Guinea.
