Kobbie Mainoo has made Gareth Southgate forgot the absence of Kalvin Phillips.

“We haven’t had any midfielder like Kalvin Phillips since he went out of the team,” said Gareth Southgate when England failed to impress earlier in the ongoing European Championship.

These comments made many Three Lions fans lose trust in Southgate as they believed Manchester United’s young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was up to the task.

The 19-year-old Stockport-born midfielder, Kobbie Boateng Mainoo has filled the spot left by Kalvin Phillips to the surprise of everyone.

“We didn’t really have a player like him, so it makes a big difference when you have someone like him who can receive and turn with the ball so easily,” Southgate said after England’s 2-1 win over Netherlands.

“It looks simple when he does it, but it’s not easy,” concluded Southgate.

Kobbie Mainoo makes playing in midfield very simple but it is never an easy job. The Manchester United midfielder is extremely talented and England will hope he will form a strong partnership with Arsenal’s Declan Rice for many years for the national team.

England will square off against Spain in Berlin on Sunday at the Olympiastadion for the ultimate.
