A travel and tour operator, Clement Osei-Wusu, has been ordered into lawful custody after he was accused of swindling a civil servant and members of his family out of GH¢107,000 with promises of securing them positions within Ghana’s security agencies.
The suspect appeared before an Accra Circuit Court to face a charge of defrauding by false pretences, to which he pleaded not guilty. He is expected back in court on September 22, 2026, for the next hearing.
According to the prosecution, the case dates back to October 2025, when the complainant, a civil servant based in the Bono Region, became a member of a WhatsApp platform called “Limited Job Opportunities,” which Osei-Wusu reportedly administered. The group regularly circulated adverts for openings within the security services.
The complainant’s cousin, Gbenyare Yahaya, is said to have reached out to the accused to find out more about the alleged openings, then relayed the details to the complainant.
Osei-Wusu allegedly quoted GH¢15,000 for placements with the Ghana Revenue Authority and GH¢19,000 apiece for slots with the Ghana Armed Forces and other security outfits.
The two men are said to have visited his office on October 17, 2025, and paid for a pair of Ghana Armed Forces slots.
He subsequently claimed to also have access to vacancies within the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Police Service.
Investigators say the complainant went on to wire GH¢35,000 into Osei-Wusu’s Fidelity Bank account on December 24, 2025, before making a further payment of GH¢20,000 in 2026, this time through mobile money and two rural bank accounts to reserve two GPS positions.
He is also accused of soliciting an extra GH¢5,000 to have the complainant’s son moved up from the second to the first batch of GAF recruits.
Despite pocketing the funds, Osei-Wusu allegedly never delivered on any of the recruitment promises and eventually blocked the complainant from reaching him. The matter was reported to the police on August 8, 2026, culminating in his arrest.
