Andre Ayew is little by little getting back to his best even at the twilight of his career. His club Le Havre is in a relegation battle. They secured a crucial point in the 3-3 draw against PSG which moved them out of the relegation zone. Ayew was on the score sheet for Le Havre and continued his fine form over the weekend.

The legendary Black Stars forward has expressed his optimism in the team to bounce back and also acknowledged the fact that results have been poor in recent years.

“We cannot hide behind the fact that the results lately have not been the best and we are sorry for that but I know it’s part of the game. Football is like a cycle, you have moments,” said Andre Ayew when speaking to Nana Ama Agyemang on Chasing Gold with Nana Aba.

The skipper for the Black Stars has begged Ghanaians for the team’s horrible performances in recent tournaments. Ghana has been very embarrassing and it is very surprising to see the team struggling to win games even against minnows.

“We were on top for about 10 to 12 years but now it’s other people but we need to keep working harder. We have the talent and the players, it’s just a matter of time and a little bit of luck for things to switch around,” Ayew remarked.

Ghana enjoyed a wonderful moment from AFCON 2008 to the 2015 AFCON as the team reached the semi-finals in all the AFCONs played within that period. Ghana lost two finals against Egypt (2010) and Ivory Coast (2015). This period was great even though the team did not win a trophy. The Black Stars nearly made it to the semi-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Andre Ayew talked about the new talents at the Black Stars’ disposal as he thinks they can bring the team back to its glory days with a little bit of luck.

The Black Stars of Ghana resume active work in June when they travel to Bamako to face Mali in MD3 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
