Kamaaldeen Sulemana was an unused substitute in Southampton’s crucial trip to Portman Road. The Saints lost 3-2 to the Championship leaders, Ipswich Town in a fierce contest on Easter Monday.

When Russel Martin, Southampton’s manager, was quizzed about his decision to not use Sulemana from the bench, the Scottish manager said Sulemana deserved to enjoy some minutes.

“He trained well. He deserved to play. He did some really good stuff and did some stuff that he needs to improve on but he hasn’t played for a long time.

“I’m pleased he was out there and did the things that he did. There are some brilliant bits in there,” said Russel Martin. The manager praised Kamaaldeen and expressed his delight in seeing him as part of the team.

“The way he’s trained over the last month or two has been outstanding. So hopefully today will be good for him moving forward,” Manager Martin said.

Kamaaldeen Sulemana had made 9 consecutive appearances for Southampton before the 3-2 defeat against Ipswich Town.

Injuries have been delaying the talented 22-year-old Ghanaian forward’s development and Russel Martin hopes Sulemana will win his battle against injuries and show the world his full potential.
