Asante Kotoko have parted ways with Head Coach Eric Tinkler. The club’s Board of Directors has agreed to his request to be released from his contract with immediate effect.
In a statement dated 28th September, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the Board, A. K. Osei-Owusu, Esq., the Porcupine Warriors said the coach requested release for personal reasons. The statement did not elaborate on those reasons.
The club disclosed that both parties held negotiations earlier in an attempt to avert the decision at this stage of their relationship. However, the Board said it finally had to respect Coach Tinkler’s decision.
The statement also carried a firm message about standards at the club. Kotoko maintained that professionalism, unwavering commitment and total focus are crucial to achieving the key performance indices it has set to meet its present objectives.
Even so, the club was gracious in its farewell. It thanked the coach for his professionalism and commitment to its success during what it described as a “rather short stint” with the Porcupine Warriors, and wished him well in his next endeavours.
With the head coach’s position now vacant, Kotoko moved to reassure supporters that it is business as usual. According to the statement, the Technical Team is poised to proceed with the club’s strategies to achieve its objectives under the leadership of the Director of Football, Mr Stanley Purl Menzo.
The club did not say whether an interim or permanent replacement would be named, or how soon. Further announcements are expected as the Board decides on the next steps.
Tinkler’s exit adds to the challenges facing the Porcupine Warriors as they look to meet their objectives this season. Supporters will now be waiting to see who takes charge of the dugout and how the Technical Team responds to the sudden change.
Appointed on 17th July 2026, the Roodepoort-born did not last for more than three months at the helm. In four games that he managed, he won one, drew two and lost one – which ultimately led to his departure.

Kotoko’s 4 games coached by Tinkler
Week 1 – Debibi United 2-2 Kotoko (D)
Week 2 – Kotoko 2-1 Heart of Lions (W)
Week 3 – Samartex 1-1 Kotoko (D)
Week 4 – Kotoko 2-0 Aduana Stars (L)
What is next for Asante Kotoko?
The club is yet to communicate to the fans the man for the vacant hot seat. The Porcupine Warriors will quickly need to announce a new head coach before week 6.
Where is Eric Tinkler’s destination?
Sources on social media say that the South African, 56, has agreed to join Durban City soon after leaving the Porcupine Warriors. The South African club’s head coach role is vacant after it also parted ways with Khalil Ben Youssef, who was dismissed after 10 games in charge.
