Two of the last three teams to have won the Ghana Premier League will square off at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samraboi in week 7 on Sunday afternoon.
The two teams are separated by only two points, with the Samartex just three points behind the visitors who occupy the first position on the league log.
Medeama had an indifferent start to the new campaign after drawing their first two games at Vision (1-1) and Dreams (2-2) amid two defeats in the CAF Champions League preliminary round against Congolese side TP Mazembe.
They have not dropped a single point since bowing out of Africa after winning four games consecutively in the GPL, pushing them to the top of the table.
Ibrahim Tanko’s charges are poised to retain the title they won last season, and they have already started showing title credentials.
Samartex, on the other hand, tasted their first defeat of the new campaign when they visited Sikakrom in week 6.
The visit to Len Clay Stadium ended in a 1-0 defeat against FC AshantiGold O4, with Kwame Ankamah Junior’s first-half penalty separating the two.
Samartex have amassed seven points from possible nine at Nsenkyirie Sports Arena by beating Karela and Young Apostles, with a draw against Asante Kotoko sandwiched in between.
Samartex is a difficult place to be with the Mauve and Yellow, knowing it probably is more than any team in the division.
Since October 2023, Medeama have not recorded a win in the GPL over Samartex. Medeama have recorded two defeats and three draws, making the trip a tough one.
The big match of the week in Ghana is this fixture, considering the football they have been playing in the last six weeks and their recent record as title winners in the Ghana Premier League.
