Cashew farmers in Bono and Bono East Regions are up in arms with the government after the announcement of a new price by the Chief Executive Officer of Tree Crops Development Authority, William Agyapong Quaitoo.

The new price per kilogram of cashew is now Gh7.00 against last year’s Gh 8.50

However, some farmers are describing the new price as an insult and want further upward increment.

“We are therefore calling on the Tree Crops Authority CEO to rescind his decision immediately if he doesn’t want us to doubt his connivance with the merchants to shortchange us”, a farmer spoke to Kapital News.

“At least the Authority should consider the current economic indicators and rising inflation rates to have agreed on a better price for us”

“If the government wants us to stop doing business, that is ok”, a farmer threatened.
